A tightly cropped oil painting on visible canvas of one adult human eye, the lids and near skin filling the frame edge to edge. The upper lid carries a soft grey crease. Long black upper lashes are drawn one by one, thicker at the root, fanning upward and slightly outward. Shorter finer lower lashes sit along the lower lid. The sclera is pale cool grey-white, canvas weave showing through the skin. The iris is not a flat color. It is a barrel wave of ocean water curling around a solid black oval pupil set a little right of the iris center. The crest breaks on the left of the pupil, white foam and spray thrown up, turquoise water turning over into deep cobalt and teal, a green edge in the foam. The lower right of the iris is the darker trough, ridged water catching small white flecks. Cool daylight from the upper left brightens the foam crest and the left water, and leaves the pupil a flat black hole with the shadow pooling in the lower right trough. Brush marks stay visible in the foam and the trough. The ground around the eye is one cool grey field. No second eye, no face beyond the lids, no lettering anywhere on the canvas.
